Earth Wind FireDuring November 2011, about.com is counting down its picks for the dozen best R&B, Soul and Funk music groups of all time. No. 2 on the list is Earth, Wind & Fire. Out of all the groups on the list, EWF is the one that most epitomizes the word "band" because it's made up of about a dozen accomplished musicians and two lead vocalists. The group ruled the 1970s and early '80s with its infectious brand of feel-good funk, Soul and pop, epitomized by songs like "Boogie Wonderland," "September" and "Let's Groove." The JacksonsDuring November 2011, about.com is counting down its picks for the dozen best R&B, Soul and Funk music groups of all time. No. 3 on the list is family band The Jacksons, who were known as The Jackson 5 until they were forced to change their known after leaving Motown Records in the mid-1970s. The group, which made it this high based mainly on the amazing vocal performances of a young Michael Jackson,  wasn't just a musical act during its day, it was a cultural phenomenon. The MiraclesDuring November 2011, about.com is counting down its picks for the dozen best R&B, Soul and Funk music groups of all time. No. 4 on the list is the best R&B trio of all time, The Supremes, also known as Diana Ross & The Supremes. The group, which served as the inspiration for the semi-fictional musical Dreamgirls, sang some of the most iconic tunes in Motown history during the '60s, including "Stop! Mateo - Love and StadiumsFor the past several months, yours truly has been telling you up-and-coming singer-songwriter Mateo, a protege of music producer Kerry "Krucial" Brothers, who's best known for his work with Alicia Keys. And here's the latest offering by Mateo, a remix of his song "Fool for You," which features singer-songwriter Dawn Richard. Dawn, whom you might know from her time in the short-lived R&B-pop group Danity Kane or her current membership in the hip-hop/R&B trio Diddy-Dirty Money. "Fool for You" will be featured on Mateo's Love & Stadiums II EP, which is due out Dec. 6, 2011. This version of the song, which you can stream via the link below, again proves that he's a real and substantive R&B singer who's someone to keep an eye on.

Smokey RobinsonDuring November 2011, about.com is counting down its picks for the dozen best R&B, Soul and Funk music groups of all time. No. 5 on the list is legendary act The Miracles, aka Smokey Robinson & The Miracles. Although best known for their Motown-era songs, including "Tears of a Clown" and "You've Really Got a Hold on Me," featuring Smokey Robinson as lead singer, The Miracles continued on after Smokey's departure and even had one disco hit, "Love Machine," in the mid-'70s. Destiny's ChildDuring November 2011, about.com is counting down its picks for the dozen best R&B, Soul and Funk music groups of all time. No. 7 on the list is former Houston-based vocal group Destiny's Child.  This might seem surprisingly high, but from 2000 to 2005, they reached greater heights than many of the legends that came before them, such as a slew of No. 1 hit singles and multiple Grammy awards.
